Naf & Aleem - Ismaili Pre-wedding Rituals in Edmonton

Image
The Ismaili wedding ceremonies last about 4 days and everything is showered with flower petals.  The colourful glitter is added to the mehndi design solely for picture purposes.  Something like this:  Shyna, the bride's sister is bringing holy water from jamatkhana:  In order to maintain the purity of the water, she's not allowed to speak or even smile before she hands the gari over to the bride's mother:  Not such an easy task because she wants hard cash in exchange:   During the Mandhvo, four uncles bring pineapples to the bride's house and place them in the four corners of the room. We begin our journey just outside Calgary, in Chestermere, where the bride still resides in the morning of the wedding.  The founder of Sikhism, and the first of the ten Sikh gurus, oversees all the preparations:  Suman is now ready to say 'I do'.  Meanwhile, Raj spends the morning in his hotel room:  With or without the sehra, the groom looks royal.  The white horse can only improve that aspect during the baraat:  Suman's family is waiting for them in front of the gurdwara:  After the milni, everyone is a little hungry and a light breakfast, consisting of everything deep fried, fixes the temporary problem:   With full stomachs, we're ready for the 1 hour long Ceremony of Bliss.  In the balcony, there's someone who is not very happy with the direction things are headed to, but it's too late now:   Suman: "When I first met Raj, I came home and told my sister he was exactly like me. One of two things was going to happen: either we were goi...

Fall is that time of the year when love puts on a smily face and goes to town. Making a good use of his groomsmen, Arvind sends a gift to his wife-to-be:  There are middlewomen involved, as well:  Rajni approves the love letter:  And she definitely approves the Valentino shoes:  Bogdan, my second shooter, is taking his best shots at the groom:  These fancy juttis are gonna have a rough day, but more on that later:  With the sehra bandi accomplished, the groom is escorted to the limo, by his sisters:  Gurdwara Sahib Dashmesh is in celebration mode.  After the two families meet and greet in front of the temple, everyone steps inside:  Apparently, Arvind doesn't need his sehra anymore:  The bridesmaids procession signals the approach of today's star.  The first look is only half a look, as Rajni is too focused on her duty:  The initial ardas is followed by the short and emotional palla ceremony, where Rajni's father gives he...
