Shalini & Ravin - Indian Wedding at the Mirage
The middle of the wedding season finds us looking for Pokemon and listening to lots of DJ's, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
It's great to see makeup artist Sonia Sajnani again, coming back to Edmonton for the summer:
I feel a little bit like I'm intruding when I witness the emotions on Shalini's face while she opens Ravin's love letter and the gift he sent this morning:
But that doesn't stop me to change the angle and get a shot of the writing, as well. Let's not forget why I'm here:
If my memory serves me well, Shal is the first bride fully capable of making a tie knot... with a little help from YouTube:
Meanwhile, Ella is at the groom's house:
Sehra Bandi is a very old ritual, but, for some reason, is hard to master:
Ravin leaves his home in a joyous baraat:
Their numbers grow upon arrival to the Nanaksar Gurdwara:
Where they are welcomed by the bride's family:
There's instant chemistry between the two families and they can't keep their hands off each other during the milni.
Soon after that, everybody makes their way inside the Darbar Sahib:
For some reason, there's high traffic when the groom walks in:
But he manages to bring his gifts to the golak:
Shal better hurry. There's a young contender for her spot:
The Anand Karaj commences with an Ardas that involves only the couple and their parents:
After the four lamas, a surprise shower of petals give us a clue about Shalini's Hindu religion:
Congratulations and blessings come at the end of the ceremony:
Jutti Chupai is a fun tradition where the bridesmaids attempt to steal the groom's shoes. It can happen anytime during the day, but the photo shoot is the most popular occasion:
The victory is celebrated with well deserved intensity:
Out of solidarity with Ravin, the groomsmen abandon their shoes, as well:
And the girls are happy to confiscate those, too:
However, the winners may be the guys, who found a big, fat Pikachu:
Back at Shal's home, we have top entertainment while waiting for the boys:
And the bride says one last prayer, before Rav comes to take her away:
The rain pushes everybody inside and the negotiations begin:
In good Punjabi tradition, there are guns involved:
Finally, Ravin cuts the ribbon and takes his new wife away:
The tears mix with the persistent rain during the doli.
But smiles and bubbles are changing the mood at Ravin's home:
Like any welcome in Indian customs, it involves sweets:
No, this is not Pokemon GO. The couple is actuallyfighting trying to find a ring (no, it's not Lord of the Rings, either) in a bowl of milk and rose petals. Whoever finds it, will supposedly be the ruler of the family. I'm not going to tell you who won, though.
I can't leave before having a little taste of what's coming tomorrow.
In shiny new outfits, the couple enters the Mirage Banquet Hall:
Ravin is taking no chances answering the questions during the shoe game:
The newlyweds insisted on having one DJ each for the party:
Everyone seems to appreciate a lot their decision:
Once again, congratulations, Shalini and Ravin! Thank you so much for a wonderful time!
I think everybody knows who found the ring yesterday...
