Kiran & Parjeet - Where Are the Canadian Girls Disappearing? (Punjabi Wedding in Calgary)
Kiran and Parjeet reserved the most beautiful October day for their wedding.
It's nice to see Kesar so many times in Calgary, making the world more beautiful one bride at a time:
Kiran: "While my friend was in California visiting her family, she texted me asking if she could pass my number to somebody. I said okay, not expecting much to happen. Parjeet messaged me the next day - that was a surprise! Within a few weeks of talking to him, I proclaimed to my sister 'I think this is it!'. She looked at me like I was crazy. Luckily, time proved those initial feelings to be true. I'm so happy to have made it to this point so that we can finally be together, and be husband and wife! :) "
Parjeet brought his family all the way from California.
They won't go back empty handed.
After the milni, we step inside the Dashemesh Gurdwara for the Anand Karaj:
This may be the sweetest first look at a Sikh wedding. In fact, these are so rare and difficult to capture, that I was expecting to see a unicorn next:
Palle Dee Rasam is the most emotional moment of the Sikh marriage ceremony. The father of the bride, grabs one end of the groom's palla and places it in his daughter's hands, thus giving her away:
First meal of the newly weds:
I'm happy to sit at the same table with them, even though it's 'walk on' kind of table:
It's still Summer in the New East Village:
Free refreshments make the photo shoot that much more enjoyable:
As the sun goes down, Parjeet summons his posse to help him take what he came to Canada for:
The confidence level is touching the sky:
But Kiran's sisters won't give her away easily:
In fact, their psychological warfare and propaganda skills stop the Americans early in the game:
Those paper loonies won't get the boys a single step closer to the bride:
It's time for a real test:
Looks like Parjeet is no stranger to the art of making roti:
Which gets him inside, close to his new wife:
It's not easy to move to a different country and leave your family behind:
I feel rain drops falling from above and I turn around:
Rice is cast over her shoulder to shower her family with prosperity, as the bride leaves home:
The mood changes with a happy welcome by her new mother-in-law:
There still are a few fees to pay in order for Kiran to take her place in her new family, but nothing that can't be taken care of with a smile.
Congratulations one more time, Kiran and Parjeet! California just got more beautiful.
