Safia & Rahim - Two Less Fish in the Sea - Ismaili Wedding in Mombasa, Kenya
Safia: "Zahra and I had been friends for a few years before I met Rahim. Our first meeting was like any other, exchanging a few pleasantries and nothing more. Fast forward a few months to when Zahra posted that infamous picture of Rahim with his mouth wide open, filled with half-chewed veggies. That's when he really caught my attention. It didn't help that he had such gorgeous eyes!"
"It continued with whatsapp conversations from Zahra's phone until he finally mustered the courage to ask for my number. We met up a few days later and it didn't take me long to figure out that Rahim is definitely someone special. What struck me the most was how comfortable I was around him. Even now, I can be goofy, silly and moody around him and he loves me just the way I am."
"Needless to say, after six months together, I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with him. The past four years of my life have been my happiest and I can't wait to marry him and start what's going to be an awesome life together!"
Rahim: "I met Safia four years ago and I knew straight away that she was a keeper because of all the silly things I would do just to get her attention. I would always try to catch her eye, sending hints through family and friends about how beautiful I thought her to be.
"After finally meeting her properly, I began to devise fictitious scenarios in which I needed her help just so I could spend some time alone with her. There was one particular instance where I ferried her all the way to Ngong Road for a meeting. I never expected her to actually agree and so when she said yes, I pretended to 'cancel' my meeting at the last minute and took her for a cup of coffee instead (which was my genius plan all along!)"
"After all this time, I'm even more confident that Safia is my destiny because even though she figured out pretty early on what I was doing, she still went along with all my plans! I'm so happy to know that I'll never have to miss her again."
The first look:
Which makes this the first hug:
The flute sets up a romantic mood on top of the cliff:
Helping with that mood, Alex, the wedding planner, is doing what she does best:
Just like the Colobus monkeys, everyone picked a seat and is ready for the ceremony. But, unlike the Colobus monkeys, the officiants are not here yet:
So we decide to make use of this time and take more pictures:
Finally, we can begin the Nikah ceremony:
In case you have doubts, the sign reads: 'Mutual weirdness forever' ... and there's an arrow pointing to the awesome couple:
Aparently, Rahim can't find his name, but help is on the way:
And it's done:
Cheers:
The ceremony ends with a Dua (prayer):
And the cutting and eating of the flip-flops:
Daylight is quickly replaced by dusk and the two stars are ready to shine at the reception:
Once again, wow for the decorations in the garden of Swahili Beach resort:
Last 'wow', I promise, for the grand entrance:
A few more Ismaili rituals:
An old, verified method says that the one who smashes first the little pot of clay, is gonna wear the pants in the relationship:
The results are in. It looks like they are going to share the remote control:
The outdoor tropical venue, makes the reception that much more enjoyable:
Judging by the ever popular 'shoe game', Safia and Rahim just met 5 minutes ago... Which would make their love for each other even more amazing:
Congratulations one more time, Safia and Rahim! Thank you so much for inviting us to your wonderful Ismaili wedding in Africa, by the Indian Ocean.
Special thanks to Safia's parents for welcoming us in your beautiful home in Nairobi. We felt like family!
