Sheena & Neal - Hindu Wedding at the Oasis Centre
Neal: "Our story begins in Boston, in August 2009. I was tired and exhausted from working in the ICU and wanted to just pass out that night. My friend had to literally push me to go out. He brought me to a mixer at Felt nightclub, where we were going to pregame...."
"....Within 10 minutes of entering the lounge I noticed Sheena. She definitely stood out. I thought to myself 'who's this?' I had been to so many Indian parties in that city for the past three years, but nobody had caught my eye like Sheena. I was really excited! To make sure it wasn't the beer goggles talking, I waited until she moved to the well lit staircase to make my move. I got even more excited when we moved into the light. She was beautiful!..."
"... Our convo was short and sweet that night. Aside from her looks, this girl was so sweet and put out such good energy, I felt immediate physical and mental attraction to her. In those five minutes it took for our paths to cross changed my life forever."
Just like that, Neal scooped up Sheena on her second day coming to USA from Canada. Since then, their friendship and love has grown. They are gym fanatics, amateur chefs in the kitchen and enjoy exploring the different restaurants and cuisines that NYC has to offer. Over the years they have had to face multiple obstacles, but were able to overcome the challenges 'life' threw their way, which grew their relationship even closer than ever before.
Now, Neal and his family came all the way from New York to take Sheena away.
They are unstoppable:
It's my first wedding ceremony at the elegant Oasis Centre:
I've been missing out big time:
Teresa and Mirek from Exquisite Creations did a really ... exquisite job:
The Baarat continues inside. The rain storm outside keeps us all close together:
This is one of those things that happens really quick, so you have to pay attention:
I don't recall the technical term, but I think the ritual goes by the name 'mother of the bride grabs groom's nose against his buddies' best efforts':
Another fast paced event is when the bride's family is trying to steal the groom's shoes:
And the groom's men are trying to save those shoes:
It's just plain entertainment for everyone involved:
And a good test for my camera's autofocus speed:
All that is extremely enjoyable, but we're missing the most important person of today. Finally, the bride is being introduced by her brother:
The vedic ceremony begins:
The most emotional part of the ceremony is called Kanyadan:
The bride's parents will offer their daughter's hand to the groom and request him to accept her as his wife and as an equal partner in marriage:
The marriage will be declared when the couple takes seven vows symbolised by seven steps, Saptapadi:
Blessings come in form of showering rose petals:
Neal would probably like to leave now, but Sheena's gang prepared a few tasks for him:
Some of them may be deadly:
One last game before departure:
And we have a winner:
Viddai is the saddest part of the wedding:
The bride's parents say goodbye to her while the relentless rain joins their tears:
But every end is a new beginning and the newlyweds have a beautiful life together ahead:
The next day, Meridian Banquet Hall is ready to welcome its guests of honour:
The sign in book is a wishing tree:
How delightful is that:
The cocktail hour begins:
And everybody enjoys their own bottle:
Behold the couple of the moment:
Entrance under the sounds of live saxophone. First time to witness this at an Indian wedding. It's simply outstanding:
The cake is spared:
But a cupcake is sacrificed instead:
The show commences under phenomenal lights:
The mood changes briefly with a few heartfelt speeches:
But you can't keep DJ Kudos and his crew silent for too long. They didn't come all the way from UK to just sit around:
And it's legen... wait for it:
Where was I? Oh yeah ... dary! Legendary!
Congratulations once again, Sheena & Neal! May you always be surrounded by love and happiness!
