Jagz & Ryan - Punjabi Filipino Wedding in Edmonton
Jagz: 'What can I say about Ryan...I can tell you he can be stubborn at times, but he has far more patience than I ever will! We met at Boston Pizza and he was a very quiet person. I don't think I have ever been a quiet person, so going for a break at the same time with Ryan wasn't a lot of fun initially. I tried to strike up a conversation with him, but dude never said much. It took him awhile to open up and now our conversations are endless! I can truly say that I married my best friend!'
Jagveet is ready for the first wedding ceremony of the week.
Ryan and his groomsmen are getting an important atire item at Siri Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, in north west Edmonton.
I had the privilege of photographing Sikh weddings in Edmonton for the last 7 years, but never heard of this temple before.
I don't know why, because it's a really nice one.
Very happy to be able to use some new angles:
As usual, there's a fulfilling vegetarian lunch after the ceremony. Less than usual, there are no chairs in the langar:
The groom is expected at his new bride's house, to take her away:
He's allowed in, but not before he promises he's gonna cook countless dinners for the girls:
On her way out, following her new husband, Jagz is casting rice over her shoulders, leaving her family home in prosperity:
Day 4 ends with a few pictures:
At this point, the newly weds need a room:
Day 5 starts in a very creative way. Sometimes I just can't help it:
Same characters, very different look:
However, there is a leitmotiv and it comes in a beautiful colour:
St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Parish in Millwoods is another location I never had the opportunity to visit before:
But I'm glad I have it now.
The once again bride manages to make her way in through tablets and smartphones:
It is rather unexpected how unfamiliar I am with the Catholic nuptial Mass...
And this is not a regular Catholic wedding ceremony:
That is why, I think, it yields a whole new level of beauty:
Happy to be done with the marriage ceremonies.
A few more portraits before the reception.
Finally, a place where I know my way around quite well - Mirage Banquet Hall:
The most anticipated event of the evening (probably of the year) is the drinking game that decides what tables will have dinner first:
It's Jagveet and her bride's maids against Ryan and his groomsmen:
For reasons beyond my comprehension, the guys win:
The final is tight, but goes to the boys again:
Sometimes is a good idea to schedule the speeches after a drinking game.
Sometimes not...
Not sure if this is a sign, but Jagz has the last word:
Ryan gets a good taste of his own cake:
An extremely fun ritual, the Filipino wedding money dance involves pretty much all the guests present:
Basically, all the ladies that want the honour of dancing with the groom, have to pin some money to his clothes:
Same goes for the bride:
I guess there's no such thing as too many guests at your wedding.
Double congratulations, Jagveet and Ryan! Thank you so much for inviting me to your multicultural and multifun wedding!
